My name is Aspa Lestou, I am a third-year law student at the Aristotle University and this academic year I have the particular pleasure of serving as Vice President for Professional Development at ELSA Thessaloniki.
My contact with ELSA coincides with the start of my academic journey, as in the 1st year I decided, with some anxiety but also curiosity, to take part in the organisation’s activities. And although I felt excited back then, it was in my second year, as a Specialised Collaborator for Professional Development of ELSA Thessaloniki, that I understood its true strength. Through the lens of a Director, I realised that ELSA’s work is not only the organisation of high-quality and innovative activities, bridging the gap between theory and practice, and supporting and equipping the student community with the “tools” necessary for the “tomorrow” that each person dreams of.
ELSA is a warm embrace, full of surprises and challenges, open and ready to invite you on its own unique journey and to give you the chance to feel at home, perhaps for the first time in this relatively impersonal and harsh world of legal science.
My personal aim, therefore, is the preservation and continuous advancement of the ELSA that I came to love, an organisation open to everyone, that develops, inspires and is inspired. A team of people eager to promote legal science and to create activities of real quality and substance.
More specifically, for the Professional Development Area, its guiding principle is none other than its very name: development. Consequently, as Vice President of the Area, I pledge to work with my team to improve and expertly carry out activities that will showcase the legal career and bring students into contact with the legal job market.
Based on the above, therefore, and with the ultimate aim of the development of the organisation and of everyone involved with it, I cannot help but look forward to this journey that is just beginning, together with people whom I proudly call my team!
