Iro Karapanagioti

Vice President in charge of Academic Activities (AA)

“My name is Iro Karapanagioti, I am in the third year of my studies at the Law School of Democritus University of Thrace, and I also have the pleasure and honour of serving as Vice President for Academic Activities of ELSA Komotini for this academic year.

My first contact with ELSA began in the first year of my studies through some activities I attended, while my active involvement began last year, when I took on the role of Specialised Collaborator in the Academic Activities Area.

My journey in ELSA is not only my own. It is a journey built together with people who believed in what we do. Their support and enthusiasm taught me to love the organisation and its vision more deeply: that law does not remain in books, but becomes a tool for progress and social contribution when we set it in motion.

This year, from my new position, I want to take this idea one step further. My aim is for the Academic Activities Area to develop into a place where legal theory meets practice, where the student becomes a lawyer for the first time, where human rights are not simply read in a textbook but come alive through moot courts, competitions and educational programmes. I want the Area to be the occasion for us not to remain mere law students, but to become the responsible lawyers of tomorrow.

This is what ELSA is for me: a community of people that gave me the space to believe in my ideas, the strength to carry them out, and the reminder that no journey moves forward on its own.”
