2nd National Negotiation Competition – Submission of Scenarios

Dear Network,

Ahead of the 2nd National Negotiation Competition of ELSA Greece, we are pleased to announce to professionals who wish to support the competition that the form for submitting scenarios (role plays) to be used in the local and national competition phases is now open!

Ms Eleni Charalambidou, mediator and mediator trainer with many years of international experience in writing cases for educational purposes and for competitions such as the ICC International Mediation Competition (Paris) and the INADR tournaments, is responsible for selecting and adapting the scenarios to the needs of the competition.

We invite those interested in submitting a scenario for the competition to use the form below. The submission is named. The author retains the copyright of their work and grants only a licence to use it for the competition.

* Useful Guidelines and Specifications for Writing the Scenarios:

The aim of the competition is, through scenarios that reflect Greek and international reality, for students to showcase their negotiation skills within the framework of the competition. The way of writing must help students prepare properly on the basis of the information and, within 45 minutes, apply the basic negotiation skills in order to overcome any obstacles and achieve the best possible outcome.

To achieve the above goals, based on the rules of the competition, the scenarios must meet the following criteria:

• They must include a) general information for everyone (which the competitors will receive a few days before the competition) and b) confidential information for each of the two sides (which the competitors will receive just before their round and which therefore must not exceed 400 words for each side).

• They must not have been used in Greece for educational or competition purposes with the same confidential information.

• They may concern either dispute resolution or the conclusion of an agreement.

• The content must be designed so that within 45 minutes the participants can be led to an advanced stage of negotiation of all the issues (not containing only a simplistic issue to negotiate, but not too many either).

• They must not require specialised knowledge or research from the students, beyond the information given to them and the general knowledge they already have.

• The confidential information must be designed in a balanced way so as not to favour one team or the other.

* If you wish to make use of a real case, several modifications may be needed, as in real life there is often an imbalance of power, particularly issues that cannot be resolved in 45 minutes, or that require specialised knowledge which students do not have at this stage.

The submission form will remain open until Saturday 20 November at 23:59. The selection of cases will be completed on 30 November and the necessary adaptation to the needs of the competition will then take place. Cases that have contemporary elements reflecting the challenges that students will have to face later as young professionals will be preferred.
