The 6th National Moot Court Competition (EDED) was held with great success on 7, 8 and 9 August in Athens and was hosted in the courtrooms of the Council of State and the Athens Court of Appeal. Naturally, the organisation fully complied with all the applicable health protocols for the protection of public health, with the protection of health and the safety of all participants as its foremost concern. For yet another year, the only competition simulating the Greek system of the administration of justice innovated by simulating, for the first time, all three jurisdictions, thereby giving students from all three Law Schools of the country the opportunity to practise court advocacy, examining interesting cases and pleading before distinguished members of the judiciary.
The 6th EDED was held under the auspices of Her Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and had the support of some of the largest law firms in the country. Warm thanks go to the law firms Kyriakides Georgopoulos, Bregiannos, Bernitsas, Zepos & Yannopoulos, Potamitis Vekris and Ballas Pelecanos and Associates for their kind sponsorship and their constant support of our endeavour. We also thank our supporters, the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Union of Civil Law Scholars, the Union of Greek Public Law Scholars, the Union of Greek Criminal Law Scholars, the Athens Bar Association, the Thessaloniki Bar Association, and the Union of Trainee & Young Lawyers of Thessaloniki – EANDiTh, as well as the communication sponsors of the event, ERT and Offline Post.
However, the EDED could not have been realised without the hard work of its coordinators and organisers. Congratulations to the 2019/2020 Board of ELSA Greece and above all to the Vice President for Academic Activities, Stavroula Strati, who directed the competition together with her team, the Directors of the area, Athanasios Kalaitzis (responsible for the organisational matters of the competition), Marinio Vergini (responsible for the Criminal Jurisdiction), Gregorios Rouvas (responsible for the Administrative Jurisdiction), Nikoleta Mamatsopoulou and Maria Bosboni (responsible for the Civil Jurisdiction). As every year, the contribution of the organising committee was also of the utmost importance.
We naturally owe warm thanks also to the team coaches, who contributed enormously to the adequate preparation and support of the participants. In the Administrative Jurisdiction, the coaches were Messrs/Mses Petros Pantazopoulos, Nikolaos Simantiras, Georgios Vasileiadis, Gerasimos Adamakopoulos, Dimitra Iakovidou and Maria Pappa; in the Criminal Jurisdiction, Achilleas Ntogkaris, Achilleas Papatheodorou, Artemis Kanellopoulou, Evangelos Farmakidis, Maria Gkabrani and Michalis Plataniotis; and finally in the Civil Jurisdiction, Despoina Apostolidou, Angeliki Rousaki, Paraskevi Georgaki, Ioannis Revolidis, Maria Alexiou and Anastasia Kalantzi.
We naturally also owe many thanks to all the eminent academics and members of the judiciary who supported the competition with their academic standing. Specifically, we thank the three Academic Supervisors of the 6th EDED, Ms Evgenia Prevedourou (Professor of Public Law, AUTh) for the Administrative Jurisdiction, Mr Zafirios Tsolakidis (Professor of Civil Law, NKUA) for the Civil and Mr Georgios Dimitrainas (Professor of Criminal Law, DUTh) for the Criminal.
