Auspices – Corporate Transformations Conference

Dear Network,

We are pleased to announce that the Corporate Transformations Conference will be held under the auspices of the Hellenic Association of Commercial Law Scholars and the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA).
• The Hellenic Association of Commercial Law Scholars was established as an association based in Athens in 1975. The purpose of the Association, according to its statute, is: “the cooperation of those engaged in Greece with the theoretical elaboration of Commercial Law, domestic or foreign, the improvement and renewal of commercial legislation, domestic or foreign, and the interpretation and practical, especially judicial, application of domestic Commercial Law…”. To achieve this purpose, the Association instituted weekly meetings of its members during which issues of Commercial Law of particular theoretical and practical interest are discussed.
Today the Association has around 750 members nationwide, the majority of whom are Lawyers, University Academics and Judicial Officers. Beyond its Conferences, the Association has had and maintains significant activity in organising scientific seminars and discussions, in cooperation with other scientific bodies, on current issues of Commercial Law, presented by eminent and recognised jurists. The response and contribution of the scientific community to the Association’s work is substantial.
• The Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry was founded on 30-11-1914 and began to operate in February 1919 as a public-law legal entity. Over time, despite the changes in the legislative framework governing its action, it has acted as Adviser to the government of the day on matters of trade, industry, services and, more generally, development policy, while also representing, supporting and promoting business activity.
Today, the number of businesses registered with the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry exceeds 106,000, which determines, among other things, the weight of its interventions and, more generally, of its action within the Greek chamber institution. The purpose of the Chambers, within the territorial unit in which they exercise their competences, is the protection and development of trade, industry, handicrafts and every branch of the economy, in accordance with the interests and objectives of the national economy for its development and progress.
