Expressis Verbis Law Journal

Expressis Verbis Law Journal

The epilogue of this year’s effort closes with a special interview with a person who has offered his unreserved services in the field of Greek Justice. Athanasios Koutromanos, former President of the Supreme Court (Areios Pagos) and current President of the National Council for Radio and Television (ESR), through the targeted answers he gave to  Danai Vouziou, Anna Zissi and  Maria Griva, members of the Editorial Board, undoubtedly helped us understand the difficult duty  of a senior judicial officer, as well as the function of the ESR as an institutional guardian of democratic safeguards.

The ESR’s upcoming goals, the criteria for setting the starting price of television licences, and of course the stance the Supreme Court is called upon to maintain when public conscience and opinion belittle it, are key points of this interview.

Among other things, he shared the following with us:

As an institutional body, it issues decisions and gives guidance in the technical-legal sense of the term, for example as to the interpretation of a legal provision. The ESR may have a “political character” in the sense that its action sometimes entails political consequences, without however constituting a political body. […]

The third issue of our Legal Journal is closer than ever. The print edition is approaching and the effort that began a few months ago is about to vindicate all the contributors.
