Dear members and friends of ELSA Thessaloniki,
We are pleased to announce the organisation of a Legal Debate (an argumentation contest) on an issue directly linked to Greek and international legal developments.
The topic of the Legal Debate is: “Economic freedom in relation to the right to the environment”.
Specifically, the correlation of the two constitutionally protected rights, although necessary for achieving sustainable development, often leads to conflicts. Through the analysis of real cases and the examination of the relevant legal background, participants are called upon to argue for or against the introduction of strict limits on free economic development, with the protection of the environment as the guiding principle.
Participants will be divided into two teams of four people – hence eight people in total – depending on the position they are called upon to defend, and will be assessed by the panel of judges, which is expected to consist of professors from the branch of law relevant to the issue at hand.
The Legal Debate is to be held in front of an audience, on Wednesday 26 February at 18.00, on university premises.
