Testimonials from the 7th NMCC!

Participants from the three jurisdictions of the 7th NMCC share their experience of the Competition with us!

• Elisavet Glavini – Criminal Jurisdiction, Member of the winning team
“It was the best decision I made for the 4th year of my studies, to test my knowledge in a prestigious competition with real judges and professors as judges. Our endurance was tested and I personally developed my legal thinking and criminal-law reasoning in depth. The experience was unforgettable and my team taught me support and cooperation, and together we brought out everything we had been reading and writing for months. I recommend participation without reservation to every student who wants to leave Law School with a huge arsenal of experiences and knowledge.”
• Klairi Angelopoulou – Criminal Jurisdiction, Member of the winning team
“The preparation for the Moot Court, which includes drafting pleadings, practising for the oral stage, and interacting with the other team members, is an astonishing experience. You learn a lot, both academically and personally. The friendship that developed with my team members is one that will last beyond the end of law school. All this culminates in the absolute experience of the oral stage at the Athens Court of Appeal, where the judges are both law school professors and eminent Judges. The Moot Court experience is one I would recommend to everyone!”
• Maria Samara – Criminal Jurisdiction
“Every law student deserves to live the unique experience of the NMCC before graduating. It is the institution that brings the student as close as possible to legal practice, that is, defending your client by each time supporting the legal view that serves them, while at the same time rebutting opposing legal views, which requires thorough research of theory and case law on the legal issues in dispute.”
• Angelis Papastathopoulos – Civil Jurisdiction, Member of the Winning Team
“The idea of taking part in the National Moot Court Competition of ELSA Greece had occurred to me from the first years of my studies. For this reason, in the final year of my studies I decided to apply to the competition, a decision I did not regret for many reasons. The daily cooperation and preparation with my teammates, the contact and engagement with complex legal issues, the drafting of formal pleadings and pleading before eminent judges and academics are just some of these reasons. It is a competition that succeeds in bringing young people into contact with contemporary court practice. A competition that benefits every young lawyer in their subsequent professional career. For these reasons, I urge every student to apply and take part in this competition organised by ELSA Greece.”
• Dionysis Fotopoulos – Civil Jurisdiction
“The NMCC has now been established as an institution and an annual “celebration” of the country’s law student community. The opportunity I was given to be part of it complements in the best possible way the theoretical knowledge I received in Civil Law and Civil Procedure from my university professors and undoubtedly shaped my perception of practising law. After my experience in both drafting pleadings and the oral stage, I am certain that the NMCC is a must for students who want, already during their studies, to step out of their comfort zone and build and gain useful skills – legal and otherwise – early on, in a constantly changing society and labour market. Beyond the many educational and practical benefits, the educational and social processes of the NMCC offer fertile ground for communication, cooperation and interaction with students and professors from all Law Schools. I therefore consider – and it is my deep conviction – that the NMCC is a valuable experience that every law student – and future lawyer – should seek to add to their “arsenal”!”
• Viktoria Konstantinidou – Civil Jurisdiction, Best Oralist Award
“The months of systematic and intense preparation, the targeted legal research, the unprecedented effort of writing a pleading, the cooperation and, finally, the challenge of orally presenting your team’s arguments before eminent figures of the legal world in a real court are just some of the elements that together make up the most important academic experience of my student years, the NMCC.”
• Vasiliki Oikonomou – Administrative Jurisdiction, Member of the Winning Team
“The National Moot Court Competition gives every student the opportunity to engage with the process of researching and writing a pleading, and to capture and showcase theoretical knowledge as it “unfolds” in a courtroom. But, most importantly for me, the competition offers participants the chance to listen to and learn from the way their teammates (and opponents) think, to persist but also to yield when necessary, to shape their own personal style of writing and oral advocacy, to work as part of a team and to showcase their joint work.”
• Nelli Tsori – Administrative Jurisdiction
“Taking part in a moot court during a student’s undergraduate studies is a special experience for them. Taking part in a competition such as the NMCC, where jurisdictions of our national legal order are simulated, gives them a significant foretaste of what they will encounter in their professional future. By taking part in the administrative jurisdiction of the 7th NMCC, I gained a great deal and I urge everyone to seek to take part.”
• Konstantinos Avgitidis – Civil Jurisdiction, Member of the Winning Team (internship at the Hellenic Competition Commission, which was awarded to him as a prize)
“For a Law student, the NMCC process complements and builds upon the theoretical academic background provided by the Law School, while at the same time giving an early experience of pleading in the courtrooms of the Court of Appeal and the Council of State. The internship opportunity at the Hellenic Competition Commission that I was given as a prize is a great opportunity to deepen my knowledge of my field of interest, combining the skills the NMCC process provided.”
